BIRTHPLACE: SURREY, UNITED KINGDOM
EDUCATION: PORTSMOUTH UNIVERSITY
INSPIRATION: KATE MOSS, MADONNA, HOLLYWOOD, SWINGING SIXTIES, ITALIAN GLAMOUR, GUSTAV KLIMT, PUNK...
I grew up in a small conservative town in Surrey where freedom of expression was frowned upon and nothing ever happened. I would escape my boredom as a child by watching old Hollywood movies, listening to all kinds of music, and being creative any way I could. I've been artistic all my life and I would love nothing better than to settle down and draw and paint anything I liked- mostly fashion illustrations.
When I went to college I discovered a whole new playground of ideas. it was a youth-hub of creative energy, freedom of self-expression, and self-exploration.
It was cool to be yourself and to be different.
I'm influenced by many things, the golden age of Hollywood, high-octane Italian glamour, Herb Ritts, Klimt, Punk... The list is endless. I love 80s & 90s Madonna. Her music and sense of style is so influential. Of course it's from the pages of Vogue and other high fashion magazines that fires ideas into my head. The models, the haute couture, the stunning photographs- it's a wonderland of fantasy and drama. I also collect vinyls, mostly for their artwork, but I'm also inspired by the beauty created by Mother Nature: the greatest artist of them all!
My process for creating fashion art will always begin with an idea. From there, I will go through many magazines searching for the right image. When I find one, I will instantly have an idea what it is that I want to achieve. I always do a preliminary sketch and take it from there. I'm very much hands on and my work is full of feeling. The flaws and imperfections are part of the mood and drama. Nature herself is full of beauty, but it is also unique because it's not truly perfect. It's smooth with raw edges, just like my artwork.
