TO REVEAL OR NOT TO REVEAL? THAT IS THE QUESTION.

When Elizabeth Hurley wore the iconic safety pin dress back in 1994 to the premiere of “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, she not only made fashion history, but she instantly became a household name overnight.

When it comes to clothes we either conceal or reveal. Women are either motivated by modesty or drawn to exhibitionism; but a never-ending debate has argued that the function of clothing is to always attract attention instead of deflecting or repelling that attention.

Modesty is seen as a proper move towards humanity, whereas immodesty bears great emphasize of the animalism of the wearer.

Audrey Hepburn, one of the finest icons the world has ever seen, was never one to reveal the flesh sexually, but her signature look, with the help of Givenchy, was to embellish her dresses with hats and other accessories. Her look became utterly timeless, and still influences many women of today who are captivated by her beauty, elegance, and sense of style. I’ve yet to meet a person who doesn’t love Audrey.

Many people often assume that it is quite natural for women to decorate themselves and be seductive, that it is part of some God-given role assigned to women so men can be seduced by their beauty; but, it’s a well-known fact also that clothing and fashion are most essential to women when attracting a mate. After all, who doesn’t wish to look their best when going out? But is it best to reveal or conceal when choosing an outfit?

When it comes to dressing up we’ve all heard the phrase: “Leave a little something to imagination”. In fact I interviewed six eligible single men for this story and asked them do they prefer women to conceal or reveal when it comes to fashion? All of them agreed that it was quite acceptable for hot young actresses or models to reveal themselves in public, “it’s part of their job”, but when it comes to a chosen partner, they’d much prefer that she didn’t reveal too much! One of them said “the idea of another man looking at my girlfriend in a revealing outfit would freak me out".

So does revealing or concealing come into the equation of gaining a one nightstand or a perfect future partner?

Do women who dress modestly, do so in the hope to attract the saintly solid reliable type of man that will take care of them, and provide for them?

And is it that women who prefer to reveal themselves, do so in order to attract a mate as wild and crazy as she is, without any commitment?

There are so many variables to this, but there is no denying that fashion can be used as a sexual weapon to get what you want. Though clothes aren’t in any way a mating instinct, it’s universally considered that the woman’s role, whether she conceals or reveals, is to seduce men by her beauty, and for men to look after these beautiful creatures.
